Name changed to Stimson Avenue Park as a recommendation by the Department of Parks and Recreation. On October 6, 1992 the park name was changed to William Steinmetz County Park. The renaming ceremony was held Wednesday, March 3, 1993. William Steinmetz (May 10, 1914, in Liberal, Kansas - August 8, 1990) was a very active member of the community, with his wife Elva Steinmetz. Mr. Steinmentz also donated the land that is now the parks tennis courts.
